Nepean CrossFit offers CrossFit Kids and Teens classes for children ages 7 to 12 (kids) and 13 to 17 (teens). We scale workouts and movements to accommodate all ages and abilities. All of our Coaches have undergone a children’s check and hold current first aid certificates. Both age groups run classes throughout the school terms. Mondays & Fridays, 4:00 to 5:00pm for the 13-17 year olds and 5:00pm to 5.30pm for the 7-13 year olds.
An invite only Teen Barbell Class is available Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00pm. Teens must be participating in the CrossFit program for a minimum of 4 weeks priort o being invited to this class.
What is CrossFit Kids?
CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit, it is CrossFit entirely designed for kids and their specific developmental needs.
Is CrossFit Kids safe?
Yes. The primary way in which CrossFit Kids ensures the safety of participants is to require that trainers attend the two-day CrossFit Kids Trainer Course. This course also requires previous attendance at the two-day CrossFit Level One Trainer Certificate Course as well as passing the associated written exam. Perhaps most significantly, CrossFit Kids is an exercise program that views good movement as a key factor in maintaining health for children from preschool to high school. CrossFit Kids stresses proper movement mechanics at all ages, and consistency of good movement is a necessity before loads are added or intensity is increased.
Is strength training safe for children?
How many sessions per week?
We recommend that kids attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week to gain the full advantage of the program.
What is the duration of the class?
Nepean CrossFit Kids classes will run for approximately 30 minutes and 45 minutes for the teens.
How do I support my child participating in Nepean CrossFit Kids?
As a parent it is important to encourage your kids. We welcome and advise you to stay and watch the class, though we ask that while your child is participating in the class you refrain from interrupting and distracting them. We recommend keeping your child enrolled in CrossFit Kids even during sport seasons; just be sure to evaluate their schedule and discuss programming with our coaches to avoid over training.
